It happens, you just opened Chrome in your computer as usual, and suddenly your Chrome starts not responding or keeps crashing. Don’t panic. The good news is, you can fix this easily and quickly.
As Chrome is the most popular browser its userbase is also huge. Although being the most popular browser it does offers a great user experience. Its fast, secure and has a great user interface. But sometimes Chrome stops being so great and starts crashing. On Windows, it shows as Chrome not responding and it really gets annoying. So here are some steps you can take to fix and stop the crashing of Chrome.
Cache and cookies are some important things for improving the online browsing experience. Cookies help in-store some data and cache helps you reach faster where you want to go. But when these get corrupt it can become a nightmare so. So its always good to clear cookies and cache when you are not sure what’s causing the problem. And clearing cookies and the cache are also safe.
So for that Open Chome, on the top right, click on the three vertical dots button > More tools > clear browsing data. In the menu select Browsing history, cookies and other site data, cached images and files and then click on clear data. After this Restart Chrome and hopefully the Google Chrome not responding problem has been sorted.
Another common issue that causes Chrome to crash or freeze is malicious or poorly designed extensions. And even when these add-ons are more than a certain amount it can cause Chrome to crash. It’s also difficult to know which extension is causing the issue. So because of this, the easiest solution is to disable all the extensions. If the issue gets fixed then enable extensions one by one to see who is the culprit causing the problem.
To do this launch Chrome, in the URL field type chrome://extensions/ and press Enter. This will open the extensions page. Disable all the active extensions. Once extensions are disabled restart Chrome. If this fixes the issues, then you can enable extensions one by one to see which extension is causing problems.
Various users have reported that sometimes the Windows firewall causes issues with Chrome. Windows firewall is designed to restrict internet access to certain apps and block malicious apps. But sometimes it can also block Chrome which is why you might be facing issues with Chrome. To fix this all you need to do is allow Google Chrome through the firewall.
This is quite simple just go to the Search menu >type Windows Firewall and press Enter. In the left-side panel, select Allow an app through the Windows Firewall. Then click on Change Settings button > select Allow another app. Select Google Chrome > click Add > OK.
This should allow Google Chrome in the firewall if not already allowed. Then launch the Chrome and see if chrome not responding issue still persists.
If methods above didn’t work then you might have malware that’s interfering with the operation of chrome. Chrome has an inbuilt tool against it that could help you fix the problem. Just Launch Chrome, click on the three-dot menu in the top right corner. Open Settings > click on Advanced at the bottom to open all settings. Scroll down to Reset and clean up section and click Clean up computer. This will open a window where you can see Find harmful software just click on Find to start the scanning.
If still, you are not able to fix Chrome not responding error then you can reset Chrome to its original settings. This can help because there are times when some wrong settings can cause issues with chrome. And this happens especially if you are enabling beta features.
To fix all of that settings just reset the Chrome to default settings by following these steps. Launch Chrome and open Settings > Scroll down and click on Advanced to open all settings. Scroll down to the Reset and cleanup section and click Restore settings to their original defaults.
This will open a warning window with a warning that all Chrome settings will be reset. (Note: This will disable all of your extensions, wipe out all cookies, and clear all temporary data.) Click on Reset settings to complete.
A reason for Google Chrome’s not responding can also be the issue with DNS cache. While not actually related to Chrome itself, it does have a serious impact on your network connection Although this is just a minor problem, it still can ruin your day when you really need your browser to work. To clear your DNS cache type command prompt in the search panel and right-click on it to run command prompt as administrator.
Type this command ipconfig /flushdns in command prompt and if you get output Windows IP configuration successfully flushed the DNS Resolver. This might solve the issue with your chrome.
If all the above steps don’t seem to work then the last option is to Uninstall and reinstall Google Chrome. In the search, menu type Control Panel and select the Control panel app. In control panel select Programs and Features and uninstall Google Chrome. Download Chrome and reinstall it now Chrome should work normally without any issues.
