Why you need to enable Developer Mode in your Android

Developer Mode is not enabled by default because its meant to be used by developers(tech-savvy people). But there are features that can certainly be helpful to an average guy. From speeding up your device to, mocking locations there are plenty of features inside this developer menu.

Now you might think why would you don’t need these features. But consider this, you can make your apps load almost instantly, improve the performance of some games, and others. All these features without installing anything, and if you don’t want to use a feature, you just need to toggle it off.

So let’ see how to enable developers mode in Android and how to use the some of these developer features.

How to enable developer mode in Android Smartphone

Developer mode is initially hidden in your settings.

  1. So to enable to it open Settings on your phone.
  2. In settings Scroll down till and tap on About Phone.
  3. In About Phone > tap on Software Information.
  4. Now continuously tap on Build number for 7 times. As you start tapping it, you should see steps counting down until you unlock Developer Options. Once it gets activated you will see a message, “You are now a developer!”
  5. After that Go back to Settings again. where you will find Developer options, at the bottom of the settings menu, that was not previously there.
  6. Tap on Developer Options and google it ON.

Now you have enabled Developer Mode on your Android Smartphone. Now you just need to enable the features that you want to use.

Improving System Performance from Developer Mode on Android

When opening apps you see some animations. These animations could affect device performance a little bit. If we turn off these animations it could make loading of apps less eye catching but can offer some improvement in performance.

On older devices, this could offer a speed boost in the opening of apps. Making the device feel faster, while on new devices that already fast in opening in of apps. This change could make the opening of the apps quite instant.

So let’s see how to do it.

  1. Go to Settings and then open Developer Mode.
  2. Scroll down till you see, Window animation scale, Transition scale, and Animator duration scale.
  3. Now, lower these Animation settings or even turn off these Animations.
  4. Disable these animations to get faster app load. The higher the animation scale, the higher you have to wait for apps to load.

Create a Password for your Desktop Backup

Before you create a backup using Android tools on your desktop. It is recommended to apply a password on your backup. This password protects your backup and prevents it from being accessed easily.

  1. For that open Developer Options.
  2. Tap on Desktop backup password.
  3. Then type the password that you want to apply and tap on Set backup password.

Improve Game performace by enabling MSAA

If you like to play 3D games on your high-end Android phone or tablet. Then there is a way to make them look even better. For that, you need to toggle on Enable 4x MSAA. This feature offers a higher quality game graphics rendering of some games. By default, this feature is turned off for some games, because it can drain your battery faster.

  1. To enable it, open Developer Options.
  2. Scroll down and look for Enable MSAA.
  3. Toggle it on to enable it.

Allow Mock locations

Have you ever wanted to be able to fake your device location. If you wanted to do so then here is how to do it.

  1. Open Developer Options.
  2. Scroll down till you see Allow Mock Locations.
  3. Tick it to enable it, but it will not be enough.
  4. Now you need to download an app for achieving the functionality of faking location.

Limit Background Process

If your mobile has low RAM memory, or if you are facing some performance issues then this option is for you. As Android phones keeps some important data or process running to speed up launching of apps. But sometimes if an app is very resource hungry then it affects adversely on your device performance.

So if your device is feeling slow while opening apps, or if your phone’s RAM is always full( due to low RAM memory). Then you can use this option, as name suggests it limits processes that can run in background.

  1. Open Developer Options.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Limit background processes.
  3. Now select, the number of processes you would want to allow to run in background.

These are some of the things that you can do after you enable developer mode in your Android phone. There are also various other features as well as Display CPU usage, show touches, etc. Now you have enabled Developer Options you can enable any option and see if you like it. For the most part, it’s safe and if you didn’t like the feature you can just turn it off again.
